Home Working Time Directive 2009 Challenges WTD Quality

Quality

Quality should always be at the heart of healthcare, in terms of both the services patients require and in respect of the knowledge and skills which all healthcare practitioners use in delivering care. The balancing act with European Working Time Directive (EWTD) is to improve the quality and level of service provided by clinical teams whilst maintaining the training of junior doctors. Initiatives like Hospital at Night (HaN) have helped improve the quality of service provided to patients by ensuring that appropriately skilled doctors and other healthcare staff are readily available during the night. The HaN approach is further supported by the use of IT system such as HanBleep and the Salisbury IT Handover Tool.
