Compliance with the European Working Time Directive is now law meaning trusts are required to reduce doctors' hours to 48 hours a week. The following films look at how many of the EWTD pilot site partners have successfully implemented solutions that have helped them achieve compliance. This video looks at the impact of Hospital at Night and Taking Care 24/7 which have successfully reduced mortality rates and enhanced doctors’ training.

This video looks at how two trusts have successfully achieved compliance with solutions that promote more efficient and effective ways of working.

Since introducing the initiatives, Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust have reduced mortality rates and serious untoward incidents and NHS North West have reported improved wellbeing of doctors.

Dr Carol Ewing, consultant paediatrician and clinical workforce lead for the Greater Manchester Children Young People and Families Network, explains how the implementation of consultant delivered care in children and maternity services is improving the safety and efficiency of care in Greater Manchester.
