With only two years to go until the maximum working hours for junior medical staff is reduced from 56 to 48 hours per week, it is crucial that trusts continue to move towards meeting the requirements of Working Time Directive 2009 (WTD). The changes needed to meet Working Time Directive 2009 are significant for every NHS organisation and although great progress has already been made, there is much still to do. As well as new roles for staff and ways of delivering care, some hospitals will have to look at the way care is structured across whole communities. Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team is the lead organisation supporting the NHS in delivering the changes that will be needed to reach 2009 compliance.

‘Transforming Care Delivery’ is the second major conference hosted by Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team and is taking place on the 17th April 2007 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London. Delegates will be provided with a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of the Working Time Directive 2009. The event is aimed at WTD leads, human resource directors, medical directors and clinical leaders from trusts, PCTs and strategic health authorities. The conference aims to drive forward work towards 2009 – providing information on how to diagnose the impact that it will have on organisations and to find out about the national support and best practice available.

Workshops running throughout the day will focus on themes surrounding IT solutions, small and isolated sites, team working and handover, network solutions, early compliance, mental health and education, training and making it work for junior doctors. Once you are registered, further information will follow in February about workshop selection.

A key focus will be from the 20 2009 WTD pilot schemes who will have representatives present on the day and in the workshops offering ‘hands on’ advice and possible solutions and lessons from their initial work.
