Policies
Implementing HaN often involves creating new policies which can be time consuming. This section gives you good examples of policies which could be adapted for your own use.
Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Protocol
The protocol is for calling a doctor out of hours at their rehabilitation hospital. It means the staff at Christchurch have a clear procedure to follow if a patient becomes very sick out of hours and means that the doctors are not called out inappropriately. This could be adapted for other trusts with a rehabilitation hospital.

Aintree handover guidelines
This set of handover guidelines is for both the medicine and the surgery HaN team and details the format and attendees. Their handover guidelines make clear how a handover should run and who should attend. It is a simple format that is easy to implement and follow and has the potential to be adapted for other HAN teams.

St George's Compensatory Rest Policy
This policy provides a framework for providing compensatory rest when junior doctors do not receive the required rest under the provision of the European Working Time Directive.
This means that should doctors (shift working or non resident on call) end up working into their rest break, there is provision for compensatory rest.

Coventry and Warwickshire's Supervisory Log
This is a supervisory logbook for supporting and recording development of advanced skills for the extended role of a clinical nurse. It helps with:
- Structured record of an individual's practice
- Identify and direct development
- To provide an audit trail of evidence of reflective practice
