Making Hospital at Night Mainstream and Beyond

Held at the QEII Conference Centre, London on 19th September, 2008

As hospitals work towards meeting the Working Time Directive 2009 requirement for junior doctors, the role of teamwork solutions supporting medical staff working at night and beyond becomes more focussed.

With the Hospital at Night solution well established in the UK, Workforce Projects Team held a conference to showcase the contribution of Hospital at Night teams, the journey to date and the future direction with special emphasis on patient safety, leadership while supporting service delivery and its contribution to meeting WTD 2009.

The conference:

  • Promoted the benefits of Hospital at Night
  • Showcased best practice and emerging models
  • Celebrated the achievements learning over the last five years
  • Showed how the model is being translated internationally
  • And showed how to apply the real time learning to out-of-hours and 24:7.


The conference was applicable to medical directors, NHS trust board members and clinical leads as well as governance leads and senior managers.

Hospital at Night provides a practical solution for hospitals by bringing the out of hours team members together to meet the needs of patients.
