Over the past five years we have had the pleasure of working with a number of truly inspirational organisations and individuals that have implemented European Working Time Directive solutions and proven that compliance is achievable whilst ensuring high quality patient care and training for junior doctors. The full implementation of the EWTD 48 hour week presented major challenges for NHS organisations and it was essential to engage all major stakeholders in shaping the National EWTD Programme.
Major features of the EWTD Programme were pilots led by clinicians to redesign services around patients and exploring the impact of new ways of working.
Independent evaluation of the EWTD programme helped us identify those that have not only faced the challenge head on and achieved compliance but have also continued to share their learning across the wider NHS.
We would like to thank all the pilot sites and other collaborative partners who helped make the EWTD programme a success and following much deliberation we saw fit to honour a select few with outstanding contribution awards.
