Transforming Care Delivery 2007Transforming Care Delivery was the theme of Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team projects first Working Time Directive national conference in April 2006. We are building on the success of this event with the second in our series of conferences being held at the QEII Conference Centre in London on Tuesday 17th April 2007. The aim of WTD 2009 - Transforming Care Delivery is to provide a national conference that will update working time directive leads on key developments in the WTD work programme, facilitate sharing of practical work and solutions from the 20 WTD pilot sites and raise awareness of solutions to the challenge of achieving the 48 hour working week for junior doctors. It will look at how WTD works with a range of key NHS national targets and is a stimulus for issues such as service reconfiguration, new roles, new ways of working and productivity and efficiency. It will be a key way of stimulating work as trusts move towards the challenging target. The key messages that we have highlighted to deliver are: 1. Sharing learning and solutions from the WTD 2009 pilot sites All 20 WTD 2009 pilots will not only have a presence at the conference but learning from them will form an integral part of the content of the day. Sue Dean, associate director at the Workforce Projects Team said, “Last year’s event re-energised the work towards 2009 and updated people on the work going on. This year we are looking to build on that with a mix of plenary sessions, masterclasses and workshops using a range of national speakers along with individuals and organisations involved in WTD work. This will provide practical sessions around lessons from the pilot sites, delivery of key messages on how WTD fits into other priorities and the national picture along with information on delegate’s particular areas of interest.” Please book early to be guaranteed a place. To book, for further information, or to raise a topic you would like to see included at the 2007 conference, please see www.healthcareworkforce.nhs.uk/wtd2007conference or contact wtd@skillsforhealth.org.uk. The 2006 Transforming Care Delivery event held on the 4th April 2006 drew a capacity audience of 270 delegates at the QEII Centre in London. The audience was largely made of assigned WTD leads along with a number of clinical and nursing leads. The conference was about re-energising the work towards 2009 and updating people on the national and local initiatives going on and what they can expect to see in the future. It aimed to give an honest appraisal of the challenges that need to be faced around Working Time Directive and provide some clarification of the current situation. Formal feedback post-event told us that:
