Making Education Governance a reality in the North West: what it means to NHS organisations and a guide to its successful promotion and adoption
Following on from its recent 2009 'Workforce, Education Commissioning and Education and Learning Strategy' NHS North West has recently released guidelines relating to one of the pledges, to support NHS organisations in promoting and establishing the adoption of an Education Governance framework.
These guidelines offer a significant indication of the importance placed upon ensuring effective education of the 'whole' workforce.
This document describes the benefits of Education Governance, with the aim for this to be used as a resource to embed accountability, transparency and continuous improvement in education into organisational culture. The importance of this is emphasised within the NHS Operational Framework 2009 and the framework will be used to support the Learning and Development Agreement process. The approach is also consistent with striving to maximise learning opportunities for doctors in training whilst implementing the EWTD 48 hour week.
Several development opportunities including a 'Master Class' and an 'Action Learning set' are planned for the Autumn to further support organisations in the North West to implement these guidelines.
