Launch of DRS Rulebook

A new web-based version of DRS (Doctors Rostering System), which was devised to support trusts in their management of junior doctors within the Working Time Directive and New Deal requirements - is currently being rolled out to trusts on a region by region basis.

To accompany the rollout, Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team is launching the DRS Rulebook to support users by defining the analysis and calculations that occur in DRS and linking them with the New Deal/WTD rules and regulations.

For each element of DRS, the Rulebook presents the New Deal or WTD rule and then describes how DRS follows it. This will give trusts more comprehensive information on their New Deal and WTD compliance and support trusts in developing sustainable WTD 2009 rotas. It also brings together the sources of New Deal and WTD rules into a useful resource for medical staffing and WTD leads in trusts.

The Rulebook has been produced in conjunction with a Rules Advisory Group consisting of DRS users and national New Deal and WTD experts. The DRS Rules Advisory Group meet on a quarterly basis to discuss any development in legislation or practice which may affect the Rulebook.

DRS is currently being used in 180 trusts and other organisations around the country.

To enquire about gaining access to DRS in your trust please contact Dan Hughes dan.hughes@skillsforhealth.org.uk or 0207 953 0221.
