iBleepIn Calling Time Issue 4, we updated readers on an agreement with South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust to make available the iBleep software to the NHS in England. iBleep is a piece of software that enables staff to generate, accept and interact with calls generated from the wards, it utilises wireless technology on personal digital assistants (PDAs) which are carried by the junior doctors.
If your organisation is interested in implementing ibleep, the first thing you need to do is register with the Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team. How does the system aid Working Time Directive 2009 compliance? Much of 2009 compliance will be achieved by directing medical staff into day time working, with improved training opportunities, as well as reducing hours. The iBleep system collects activity data as part of service delivery. iBleep gives information on doctor activity, not only the number of calls, but also the nature and time to completion of calls. This data can be used to redefine the number of staff on call and to identify tasks, presently performed by doctors that could be performed by non medical personnel. This is alongside supporting the team working approach on the wards. Progress towards April 2007 iBleep availability:
There has been considerable interest in the software and the Workforce Projects Team have issued criteria to enable organisations to assess their "state of readiness" and then if favourable, submit requests to become one of the three early implementers. The Workforce Projects Team will also being organising a launch day in Manchester, early in 2007 to give a demonstration of the tool and provide further information on how to acquire the system.
