Welcome to the 13th edition of Calling Time, and on behalf of everyone at Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team, may I wish you an extremely happy and prosperous 2009.
Whilst the number 13 is unlucky for some, the same can’t be said for Hospital at Night, as we’re delighted to tell you the innovative method of care was highly commended at the 2008 Health Service Journal awards in the Patient Safety category. Comedian Dara O’Briain brought his unique brand of humour and gave his alternative take of the NHS at the glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London in December. It was fantastic to see so many of our pilot sites, WTD and non WTD related, in the list of finalists and I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate NHS North West for winning the award for Workforce Development, with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust highly commended in the same category. We are extremely proud of all these achievements.
Following the festive period, there is already plenty of activity planned in 2009 in the form of events and sharing of best practice to look forward to. These include the list of WTD events on page 11, a collection of practical tools on pages 6 and 7 to assist you with your projects, along with overviews of some of the trusts which have already implemented/achieved full WTD 2009 compliance.
We look forward to sharing your successes and learning from all of your WTD projects in the coming months.
