Development is almost complete on a version of DRS Version 3 which has been tailored for members of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). Comprising a pattern editor with quick analysis, members of the RCS will be able to access the application via their College web site and try ideas for work patterns. The page will return instant information about Working Time Directive compliance, New Deal Banding, and will also include an instant analysis of the amount of good educational time which would be available to junior doctors working on the rota, in line with the paper by Yasmin Ahmed-Little and Matthew Bluck.
The application will shortly be assessed by members of the RCS WTD Working Party prior to a limited roll out to members. If this first roll out is a success, then the application will be made more widely available.
