DRS - Doctors Rostering System
The Doctors Rostering System (DRS) is software designed to support the complex task of ensuring junior doctor working practices are in line with the New Deal (ND) and the European Working Time Directive (EWTD).
Its main features include the provision of analysis and data management tools, along with ministerial returns and rebanding functions. It assists with the design of ND and EWTD compliant work patterns and produces detail and summary reports.
Created within the NHS, it is maintained with the help of DRS users and national ND and EWTD experts. This ensures it is consistently being developed for the workforce and in line with legislation or practice changes which may affect the rules.
140 trusts and other organisations rely on DRS to ensure their rotas are well planned for their specific needs.
Users of DRS are supported by a dedicated team who manage incoming queries. The helpdesk is subject to service level agreements with each participating SHA/trust, governing response times, quality and availability of training. For further information or support using DRS, please contact the Tools helpdesk on tools.team@skillsforhealth.org.uk or 0161 266 2261.

DRS for clinicians
DRS for clinicians offers a set of functionality aimed at clinicians responsible for creating rotas. Providing easy access to analysis of EWTD and ND compliance and availability of good educational time on a rota, (http://www.nwpgmd.nhs.uk/hospmed/), this version of DRS is designed to be easily picked up without the need for training. Available free to all clinicians at www.drsusers.nhs.uk/clininppattern.aspx. DRS for clinicians also allows users to send rotas to version 3 users for use in implementing and then monitoring rotas. For further information and to use DRS for clinicians, please see contact details below.
Skills for Health now offer the award winning North West Rostering tool (NWR) alongside DRS. NWR extends DRS functionality to provide real time rostering, helping to ensure that you have the right staff at the right time providing the right service.
DRS and NWR cost only £5000 per year per trust. All income goes toward support and further development.
How it helps your organisation
DRS helps make rota planning more efficient and enables users to detect any issues with ND and EWTD compliance. This in turn creates cost savings for the organisation.
Skills for Health and NHS North West have now created the North West Rostering Tool (NWR) to work alongside DRS, ensuring the theoretical rota templates from DRS can be turned into workable, efficient and compliant rosters. For more information on NWR go to http://www.healthcareworkforce.nhs.uk/nwr/
