Designing Rotas for WTD Compliance

Ensuring that rotas for doctors in training are WTD 2009 compliant can prove difficult for any trust.

To aid this process, Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team has commissioned a number of workshops across England focusing on tools, techniques and resources available to assist trusts in addressing issues of non compliant working patterns.

The one day workshops will take place in January and February 2009.
Dates and locations:

  • 13th January - London
  • 15th January - Manchester
  • 10th February - Leeds
  • 12th February - Bristol.

Delivered by workforce leads from the East of England SHA and The NHS Workforce Review Team, the workshops will focus on:

  • Use of problem solving techniques to understand the issues of non compliance
  • Principle characteristics of good rota design, taking into account recommendations from Royal Colleges
  • Working pattern choices - matching suitability
  • The contribution of new roles
  • Delivering education and training for doctors in training as part of rota design
  • Resources available to support rota design
  • Examples of approaches adopted by trusts to support compliance
  • Building information to develop robust rotas
  • Developing an options appraisal approach to building solutions for the trust.

The workshops aim to equip those working within trusts who have responsibility for supporting the process of developing WTD 2009 compliant rotas. There are 35 places available per workshop. To find more details and register your interest visit
