Editorial

Welcome to the first 2008 edition of Calling Time.

With only 18 months to go until the directive takes effect, it is imperative that trusts across the service benefit from the key learning from the range of the WTD 2009 pilot sites. For this reason, we have decided to step up the pace and will be bringing you Calling Time bi-monthly. This means that from this issue onwards, there will only be nine more editions in the run up to August 2009

Contained within Issue 8 are several case studies including The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital, which focuses on how change was initiated within the organisation by expanding on the Hospital at Night programme. And we also take an in depth look at The Royal Surrey County Hospital and their work to meet the requirement through the extension of new roles for non-medical staff.

A review of the Tooke report is included within this issue focusing on the implications for WTD as well as a European update. If you have any subject areas that you'd like to see in forthcoming Calling Time issues, do get in touch with our WTD communications officer workforceprojectsteam@skillsforhealth.org.uk
