New on the (development) menu
A resource designed by Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team to help healthcare staff access workforce planning capability and capacity programmes and resources has recently been given a facelift.

The Workforce Planning Development Menus introduced in 2007 have been updated to include an increased range of programmes and resources to support developments in workforce planning following the NHS Next Stage Review. New on the menu is a selection of accredited programmes that form an educational pathway for people seeking professional qualifications. Each menu delivers a selection of suggested resources and programmes that provide a host of information and skills.

Have you been benchmarking?
WPT still wants to hear from healthcare staff who’ve used the NHS Benchmarking Database to help plan their workforce or services.

The tool provides a single access point to a range of acute sector, mental health, primary care trust, ambulance and maternity NHS data sources.

We want to produce a series of case studies to show how the database has practically helped healthcare staff, so if you have any colleagues you believe may be interested in taking part, contact WPT at: workforceprojectsteam@skillsforhealth.org.uk

ESR Analysis Tool Now Available
A new tool developed at NHS Plymouth to efficiently use electronic staff record (ESR) information to support workforce planning is now available on the healthcare workforce portal.

The ESR analysis tool supports step 4 for the Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning and generates workforce skill mix trees and age profiles from a single data download from ESR. It automatically calculates skill mix data for the percentage of staff.

The tool is aimed at workforce planners and gives a clear picture on the skill mix and age profile of the whole or any part of an organisation. Try the ESR Analysis Tool at www.healthcareworkforce.nhs.uk/six_steps_4
