Autumn 2009 saw a number of events take place focusing on how trusts can produce compliant rotas whilst ensuring quality patient care and training for junior doctors at all times.
October 2009 - Medical Protection Society Conference ‘Making the Most of your Consultant Post’
The Medical Protection Society (MPS) held its two annual one day conferences for newly appointed Consultants and Specialist Registrars in London and Manchester at the end of October. Both events were very well attended with in excess of 100 delegates at each.
The comprehensive programme enabled delegates to hear about a wide variety of issues pertinent to their consultant practice. These issues were grouped together as follows:

November 2009 - Hospital at Night - Meeting the Challenge
Keynote speaker Tim Lund, divisional manager at Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team covered the key topic of sustaining solutions, focusing on the Hospital at Night (HaN) and 24/7 models of care and the implications of EWTD for training junior doctors. Tim used evidence from a number of the pilot sites to showcase that HaN and 24/7 implementation has improved the quality of patient care and reduced mortality rates.
Dan Hughes, senior project manager at Skills for Health spoke about implementing HanBleep to support HaN team working using a case study from the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to showcase the benefits of the system focusing on the reliability and secure nature of the technology.
Hospital 24/7
Speakers from trusts all over the country gathered to discuss particular aspects of the operation of their hospital and how it contributed to the Hospital at Night and Hospital 24/7 service.
Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team exhibited at all events distributing the wide range of EWTD literature and resources offering advice and guidance to delegates on key EWTD issues.
