Whittington Hospital NHS Trust

Whittington Hospital NHS Trust

The pilot at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust explored the feasibility of a cross site joint surgical consultant on call rota to provide out of hours cover across site with Royal Free hospital (managed by the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust) which is geographically close by.

Cross site cover to meet Working Time Directive 2009 compliance

The project also explored the possibility of cross site cover out of hours over the two sites to increase the sustainability of the change in service delivery. As a second stage the cross site cover was to be extended to include junior doctors in training on both sites in order to move towards WTD 2009 compliance.

Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust have successfully completed phase one of their WTD pilot and are working towards phase two which was due to complete in March 2009.
