A 150 item annotated bibliography is included in the review with a set of themes emerging from the literature which will guide the reader.

This review provides useful information for workforce planners at SHAs, trusts and PCTs as well as HR leads.
How will this help me and my organisation?
This review points to current initiatives aimed at helping organisations to make the best use of staff time, which should lead to improving healthcare efficiency and effectiveness generally.
Moreover, recent financial shortcomings in some trusts mean that efforts have to be strengthened so that waste is reduced.
Recently commissioned productive time projects aim to help managers and practitioners boost productive time by improving service efficiency (doing things right) and effectiveness (doing the right things); in short, making the best use of staff knowledge, skills and the actions to which these qualities are converted.
How do I use this resource?
You may read the review as an informative guide to the literature currently available. Alternatively you may use the content in order to review and inform management and human resource practice within your own organisation.
