Introduction to Workforce Planning

The phrase 'getting the right people with the right skills and competences in the right place at the right time' is often used to describe workforce planning.

This booklet attempts to break down this definition and help you understand how to identify:

  • Who the right people are
  • What the right skills and competences should be
  • Where they should be
  • When they should be there.

This booklet has been developed to help those new to workforce planning understand what workforce planning is; what factors need to be taken into consideration when developing a workforce plan, what tools and resources are available and - more importantly - why they might help.
