Renal Business Case Template and Guidance
Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team have produced a business case template for use when developing services.
The purpose was to create a template for use by service leads/heads of service, team leaders and directors. The template will support service change, staff changes and role redesign within a particular service or team.
The business case template is supported by a set of guidance notes intended to steer the users and prompt discussion on the key drivers for change within the service or unit. The guidance suggests identifying the problem, carrying out an options analysis, considering costs, staff, service delivery and any associated risks, as part of the final business case. This will assist in making a case for change.
The documentation highlights the importance of working in partnership with relevant colleagues/teams/organisations such as service leads, workforce planners, directors, finance colleagues, human resources and any other stakeholders.
Individual units will be responsible for their own business case based on local targets and service needs as well as national policy. The templates and guidance are generic enough to be adapted for use in other services if necessary.
Workforce Projects Team has developed this template in partnership with Care Service Improvement Partnership (CSIP) and the Department of Health (DH). The free resource available at www.healthcareworkforce.nhs.uk/ has been developed by Workforce Projects Team and features the Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning. This tool supports organisations and provides a practical guide to sustainable and evidence based workforce planning. Workforce planning workshops are also available from introductory through to strategic levels. Each individual unit will need to develop their own business case based on their own service needs.
Workforce Projects Team will make all of the resources produced for Renal services available on the portal. There will also be a page highlighting case studies and good practice.
