DRS Real TimeReal Time is an award winning web based solution that supports the generation and population of rotas for healthcare staff. It helps with planning and optimising rotas, taking into account factors such as specialty cover, annual leave, shift swaps and unexpected absence, it also acts as a hub for communication between junior doctors and the rota manager, as well as providing staff around your trust with accurate information of who is on shift, and how they can be contacted. The tool also helps ensure that shifts are performed by well rested doctors working within legal European Working Time Directive (EWTD) 2009 compliant hours and contractual rest requirements, providing accurate compliance analysis as rotas are updated.
"This software gives healthcare staff the opportunity to actively take part in the rota design process, whilst non medical staff can view the availability of doctors in real time and contact them for clinical care. Doctors can log on to the system and view their rosters from home. Also, each consultant can now take an active role in management of their own staff and unit, as they will be able to see the impact of absences on service delivery."
Anna Finbow, medical staffing coordinator at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. How it works
"Generating a rota over a long period that increases team availability can be beyond the scope of the rota master and their traditionally large complex spreadsheets, especially in large multidisciplinary departments. To add to these difficulties, doctors annual leave requirements, expected or otherwise mean swaps must be made to the on call rota, but with difficulty determining how this will effect the cover more than a few weeks in advance."
