Introduction

World Class Commissioning will be a central method of improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare services in the NHS. The centrality of workforce planning to the sustainability, efficiency and the quality of services delivered to patients ensures that commissioners will play a crucial role in effective workforce planning across healthcare communities.

Following the Next Stage Review, and in a world of new and developing commissioning responsibilities and processes, it is increasingly important to be aware of the workforce implications such changes will have. This World Class Commissioning masterclass will explore the implications of World Class Commissioning and Practice Based Commissioning on workforce issues across primary and secondary care. Providing a number of expert speakers, including Professor Paul Corrigan, Director of Commissioning, Improvement and Innovation from NHS London, the masterclass will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss and gain a greater understanding of these issues.

This masterclass has been developed for:

  • Those involved in commissioning at a strategic level across all healthcare fields
  • Acute sector organisations
  • Practice based commissioners
  • Workforce managers
  • HR directors
  • Chief executives
  • Finance directors
  • Directors of commissioning

Aims and objectives

  • To increase awareness of the new commissioning system and it’s future development
  • To build on understanding of the implications of commissioning for workforce issues
  • To develop an understanding of the appropriate organisational roles and responsibilities across the healthcare field
