WorkshopsSignposting EWTD solutions:NHS North West, NHS East of England & Dr Masood Ahmed discussed a range of commonly cited barriers to EWTD compliance and the wealth of assistance and practical solutions available to help overcome them. Maximising Training: Dr Ian Curran from London Deanery gave advice on approaches to maximising training for junior doctors in a 48 hour week. This workshop outlined the use of training methods such as e-learning and simulation that are available in London supported by the Deanery. Legal Issues: Jodie Sinclair and John Moore of Bevan Brittan discussed the potential legal implications of the European Working Time Directive. They covered: Current position Enforcement & sanctions Derogations Potential claims |
Miss Wendy Reid, Clinical Advisor to NHS London and the Department of Health on the European Working Time Directive, was the keynote speaker. Shreelata Datta, vice president of the Junior Doctors' Committee of the BMA, Keith Brent, BMA Consultants' Committee and a host of experts on EWTD including a European perspective from Bram Jacobs, president, Dutch Junior Doctors' Society also presented on the day.
