Medical Workforce

Introduction

Following the publication of the Next Stage Review it is clear that medical staff will be expected to take an increasingly central role in the planning, implementation and consolidation of service improvement and change. Given this context there is now the opportunity for doctors to become involved with workforce planning in a more detailed and systematic way than previously seen, both within their organisations and across the local healthcare community.

With this in mind in association with established partners we have developed the following programmes.

The aims and objectives of each of these programmes is to:

  • Ensure that medical staff take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to workforce planning
  • Encourage working across organisational boundaries
  • Raise awareness among the medical workforce of effective workforce planning models
  • Increase recognition of workforce planning as integral to the delivery of improved patient care
  • Ensure workforce planning is at the heart of service delivery and redesign processes in both the short and long terms
  • Allow medics to place workforce planning within a wider and more strategic overview of service design.
