Introduction
Effective healthcare workforce planning is essential to meet patient centred care and the challenges of future requirements within the healthcare sector. Workforce planning has traditionally been seen as the role of human resources, however this is changing and understanding the importance of planning the workforce to deliver service for today’s and future requirements is essential whether you are in a service, clinical, financial or commissioning role.
This one day workshop was developed to provide an introductory overview to the workforce planning process and included sessions on:
- what workforce planning is and who needs to be involved
- the importance of using good data to inform workforce plans
- sources of information
- tools and resources to support the workforce planning processes
- practical work using Six Step workforce planning model.
This workshop has been developed for:
- those new to workforce planning
- those who have a responsibility for planning their staff within their job role, this could include service managers, clinical leads etc
- those who don’t require an indepth knowledge of workforce planning need to understand the workforce implications when planning changes to service or financial plans eg finance or commissioning staff.
Aims and objectives
To provide:
- a basic understanding of integrated workforce planning
- awareness of tools and resources available to support planning process
- awareness of sources of workforce information and data to support planning process.
