After lunch Professor Easmon from Thames Valley University gave an interesting and challenging view of commissioning versus the free market in the NHS. This presentation was followed by a lively debate on commissioning in the NHS. The final two presentations gave a very valuable insight into the impact of geographical location on commissioning. Christine Whitehead outlined the complex issues involved in commissioning in NHS South West which was compared to the London issues by Rob Smith from NHS London. The information given in the two presentations highlighted the need to take account of the local demographics and consider local issues in education commissioning for the future workforce.
