Dental Workforce Development Resource Pack
Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team is pleased to announce the latest in the series of workforce development resource packs, this time highlighting the issues and challenges relating to development of the dentistry workforce. The pack uses the Six Step approach to provide a framework to support joint planning for, and delivery of, the dental workforce of the future.

Maternity Workforce Capability Development Programme
Recent developments in our maternity workstream include a series of three well-attended regional workshops. Further workshops are running in London and Leicester during July. Two resources are currently in production - an e-learning CD and a workforce development resource pack - both of which will support maternity workforce capability development.

Workforce Planning - Capability and Capacity Development for the NHS
Along with the maternity workstream, workforce planning capability and capacity development within the NHS is a key focus for our work in 2007/2008. Current projects include the development of Workforce Planning Development Menus which will allow people from different career paths and experiences to select the educational resources and supporting tools that will best suit their developmental needs.

Healthcare Workforce Communities
Our communities section hosts a range of discussion forums from maternity to public health to urgent and emergency care. You can sign up to any of these forums to engage with other users with the same interests. Our communities home page hosts all of our forums as well as other interactive features on our portal.

Mental Health Baseline Assessment Tool
The NHS Hospital at Night team have developed an electronic baseline assessment tool for mental health trusts to support them assessing implementation of a Hospital at Night service. The tool will support trusts implementing or extending the Hospital at Night service to support safer care and safer training. The tool was designed with input from mental health providers and will be available from early July.

Coming next month
A graduation ceremony for the first cohort of the Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Workforce Planning has been held in London on Friday 29th June. The graduation ceremony provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the students and recognise their hard work in what has been a challenging year of reorganisation. Full details will be available in our next edition.
