Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team has delivered a series of workforce planning capability workshops to further support Maternity Matters, following on from the local launch of the new maternity policy by Care Services Improvement Partnership for Children.

A series of five regional events were staged that delivered a workforce planning led approach to developing and redesigning maternity services. Each workshop was specific to a single SHA or a group of SHAs and all events were aimed at a range of clinical staff from maternity teams and their human resources and workforce planning colleagues. The workshop aims were to:

  • Ensure maternity services have the right staff with the right skills to provide a woman centred service
  • Create capability and capacity to develop workforce strategies in response to Maternity Matters
  • Ensure the NHS and its partner organisations can work together to review their overall maternity workforce plan
  • Help identify and remove barriers to integrated workforce planning
