HaNBleep – Clinical prioritisation tool for HaN teams
Multiprofessional healthcare teams across England can use the new HanBleep software system from Skills for Health – Workforce Projects Team. Trusts can download the software for free, along with extensive accompanying documentation setting out what needs to be done in order to successfully implement the system.
HaNBleep enables staff working as part of a Hospital at Night (HaN) team to accept and interact with calls generated from the wards. This allows the right information to be made available to ensure staff with suitable skills can get to patients quickly. It uses wireless technology on personal digital assistants (PDAs) which are carried by the team. HanBleep is based on iBleep, developed at South Trees NHS Trust.
HaNBleep is no longer directly supported by Skills for Health though the source code is available for trusts to use. Trusts taking the software are expected to manage and support the implementation and maintenance of the tool within their site(s), and SfH is currently unable to provide technical support on any issues users may encounter. Please note that HaNBleep is copyright Skills for Health and the intellectual property for the source code remains with South Tees NHS Trust, however Skills For Health have the right to distribute HaNBleep free to the NHS.
Benefits
- HaNBleep supports better communication of clinical information between wards and clinical staff, ensuring patients are appropriately prioritised and seen by the right person at the right time
- HaNBleep impacts on patient safety by reducing interruptions from conventional bleeps when attending to a patient. Clinical information can be shared with the HaN team without the clinical staff member leaving the bedside
- Provides auditable data of every call generated, allowing analysis of types of call, activity trends, and the workload of the Hospital at Night/out of hours teams.
