Dear Colleague
Calling Time Survey November 2009

Calling Time has been providing up to date news and information on the European Working Time Directive since autumn 2005 and now that EWTD is law we would like to evaluate Calling Time's effectiveness to date and ask if you would benefit from the continuation of a publication that covers broader workforce planning information.

The following link will take you to the web based survey and the information gathered will enable us to determine the best ways in which we can relay important and useful information to you on workforce planning issues.

We appreciate you are busy, however if you could take time to complete this short five minute survey we would be grateful. Click here to take part >>>

Thank you for your support and feedback.

WPT to appear on HealthexecTV

hetvFollowing the programme Workforce Projects Team aired earlier this year on HealthexecTV, the online television channel for NHS managers and professionals, we have commissioned a further two films that will share learning and best practice workforce solutions.

Professor Wendy Reid, national clinical adviser on EWTD and Dr John Coakley, medical director at the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will feature in one programme focusing on Care 24/7, looking at Hospital at Night and the importance of structured handovers when ensuring quality patient care and sustainable training.

The second will see Dr Carol Ewing, consultant paediatrician at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital highlight the excellent work the hospital has done developing a consultant based service and how they have reduced reliance on doctors in training.

Keep an eye on this bulletin for broadcast dates in early 2010.

Pilot Sites Success

It goes without saying how immensely proud we are of our many pilot site partners and we recently presented our own awards to a select few teams who have been recognised for outstanding contribution to the EWTD implementation programme.

Further details on all the Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team awards recipients will feature in a dedicated article in the next edition of Calling Time which will be distributed early in the New Year. Details will also be posted on the healthcare workforce portal.

A number of our pilot site partners have been recognised at the HSJ Awards 2009 and we are delighted to announce that both the Homerton and South Devon Healthcare trusts were highly commended for innovation and clinical service redesign.

Several other services that we work closely with have been recognised including:

Winners:

The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals in the Acute Healthcare Organisation of the Year category.

NHS North West, Advancing Quality in the Using Data to Improve Care category.

Highly Commended:

Guys' and St Thomas' Foundation Trust in the Delivering Quality and Value with NICE Guidance category.

Finalists:

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys Foundation Trust in the Clinical Service Redesign category.

Stockport Foundation Trust in the Reducing Health Inequalities category.

Nursing Times and the Health Service Journal have teamed up once again to present the Patient Safety Awards 2010 which will take place in February next year and several of our pilots have been shortlisted.

We will keep you updated via bulletins and the next edition of Calling Time of winners.
