Recruitment opens for postgraduate certificate

RenalHealthcare staff can now apply for the fifth cohort of the innovative and popular Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Workforce Planning.

The course is designed to give health and social care staff involved in workforce planning the skills and expertise to develop their roles. It is again delivered in partnership between Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team (WPT) and the Centre for the Study of Policy and Practice in Health and Social Care at Thames Valley University.

The course will run in early 2010 and gives workforce planners the opportunity to obtain a recognised and credible qualification to support their constantly changing roles and working environments. It will take place in Manchester and London.

North West Rostering Tool

A brand new tool that helps produce compliant and sustainable EWTD rotas for junior doctors is set to be launched in September.

The North West Rostering Tool is a web based resource that allows users to produce rotas that take into account factors like annual leave, sickness and shift swaps. The tool has been funded by NHS North West in partnership with WPT.

The resource will be piloted during August and ready for use across the NHS shortly after.

Child health resources coming soon

Renal Healthcare staff focused on paediatrics and child health workforce planning can expect new resources to support their work from WPT in the coming months.

Developed by Symmetric SD in partnership with key stakeholders, the Workforce Modelling Tool is a practical resource to model the paediatric consultant workforce. Symmetric SD will outline the assessment of workforce options for delivering safe, effective and sustainable acute care in the short term in a new report.

A further report by Collinson Grant will also be available, outlining a review of the tools and resources currently available to plan the workforce in paediatrics.

EWTD-day upon us

Renal The countdown to the European Working Time Directive (EWTD) is set to be completed on 1st August 2009 following a decade of preparation.

During this countdown, WPT have provided the tools, resources and best practice to healthcare organisations across England as they prepared for the 48 hour working week for junior doctors.

The focus now shifts to maintaining the innovative and sustainable solutions and WPT will continue providing the latest learning from across the health sector.

Colour refresh coming soon

Elements of the healthcare workforce portal will feature a refreshing new look in the coming weeks as its traditional maroon is replaced with stylish purple.

You'll also notice that some of our literature is changing colour to purple as well, plus this bulletin.
