Managing Long Term Conditions

Skills for Health - Workforce Projects Team (WPT) is leading the way in providing integrated workforce planning solutions in long term conditions.

Supporting, caring for and treating people with long term conditions is expected to become one of the dominant healthcare themes of the 21st Century and WPT has been commissioned by the Department of Health to provide resources, tools and information.

WPT will be showcasing their latest long term conditions resources at the Managing Long Term Conditions Conference at the Harrogate International Centre on 7th April. For more information on the conference here >>>

New child health developments

Child health The care of children at all stages of their development is a key element of health policy. Recent initiatives such as the Child Health Strategy: Healthy lives, brighter futures, the Next Stage Review and the recent Maternity Matters policy document have highlighted the need for integrated care that crosses organisational boundaries.

WPT is working with a range of key stakeholders to develop a range of workforce planning solutions to help organisations prepare for the workforce planning commitments outlined in the recent policy.

Six steps user group

Six steps evaluation WPT is establishing a special 'virtual' user group to contribute to the continued development of the Six Steps Methodology to Integrated Workforce Planning.

The group will help us update the online six steps elearning programme to work in conjunction with the refreshed documentation.

Train the trainer grows

train the trainer Healthcare staff from across England have been building the skills needed to train the next generation of workforce planners as the innovative Train the Trainer programme continues to go from strength to strength.

Since launching in January, the Train the Trainer programme, developed by WPT, has been given the thumbs up, with workshop delegates describing the resource as 'brilliant' and 'excellent'.

The pack gives workforce planners or trainers in healthcare organisations the tools to deliver workforce planning training locally.

The next workshops are set to take place at Bewley's Hotel, Manchester on June 22nd and 23rd.

Medical workforce event success

The role of clinical and medical staff in the planning and development of the workforce to deliver future healthcare services was top of the agenda at a free workshop organised by WPT together with the British Association of Medical Managers at the Hallam Conference Centre, London on 19th March.

'Delivering the workforce of tomorrow: clinical and medical engagement in workforce development' covered key issues including an overview of workforce development systems, the current level of medical involvement, identifying barriers to engagement and suggestions for improvements to systems and approaches to workforce development.
