The Workforce Planning Competence Framework provides a suite of essential competences aiming to assist in the continued delivery of high standards of care for patients.

This self assessment tool helps individuals and organisations examine their capability in workforce planning. The tool also enables organisations to determine their state of readiness to plan the workforce effectively

The framework uses a mix of 33 'generic' and 'specialist' competences developed using extensive consultation with key workforce planning practitioners and stakeholders, and will be extremely useful for anyone involved at any level of workforce planning.

It can also be used in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

The NHS Benchmarking Database is an essential one stop resource that can help plan workforce and services and provide a single access point to a range of acute sector and primary care trust data sources.

Workforce Projects Team are interested in holding workshops to support healthcare staff to use the database in early 2009. The workshops will help staff familiarise themselves with the tool's value, begin developing a trust profile, plus explore staffing numbers and mix. These skills aim to assist you and your trust's workforce planning and development strategy at a local level.

Postgraduate Certificate News

Students from the second cohort of the Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Workforce Planning enjoyed a graduation ceremony with a difference as they completed their 'passing out' at the world famous Wembley Stadium.

Following in the footsteps of millions of sports fans, they collected their honour for months of hard work at the hallowed venue, however they didn't have to climb the famous steps to lift their graduation scrolls.

The course provides workforce planners with the skills to adapt to their constantly changing role.

Interest in the postgraduate certificate continues to grow, even with recruitment for the latest cohort closing earlier in November. Successful applicants to the course have now been informed, and are now looking forward to beginning work in February 2009.
