New tools coming in July
Four brand new resources will be launched on the healthcare workforce online portal in July.
NWP has developed the Workforce Evaluation Tool, the NHS Mental Health Database and a new Search Engine for the Benchmarking Databases.
In addition, NHS Yorkshire and Humber have commissioned a Maternity Database which they have kindly made available for the wider NHS via our portal.
All of which will be available to use over the course of the next month.

Workforce Evaluation Tool
The tool will evaluate organisation performance in four key areas - service, workforce, customer and financial by allowing users to set measurable organisational goals which can then be mapped against actual organisational performance. The tool offers a visual representation of the users success in the four key areas and alerts the user to the best performance indicators and those which require attention.

Six steps to culture change
Representatives from Plymouth Teaching Primary Care Trust have described NWP's Six Steps Guide to Workforce Planning as 'culture changing' in the Health Service Journal (HSJ).
A two page article on the trust featured in the 12th June edition and described how they used the guide across the whole organisation, plus how staff believe it's 'paying off'. The tPCT started to implement the programme in February 2007, with people drawn from teams across the trust.
Helen Allen, director of workforce development at the tPCT, told the HSJ, "By implementing this programme we have changed the culture of the organisation in terms of how people think about workforce planning, from it being seen as something human resources does to something that all managers and budget holders do."
The six steps guide is available from the healthcare workforce web portal

Days from the final countdown
Healthcare sector colleagues from across the UK will converge on London's Docklands this week for the third annual Working Time Directive (WTD) exhibition.
The ExCeL exhibition and conference centre will play host to the event on 2nd July, which marks the final countdown to the introduction of the 48 hour working week for junior doctors.
All resources from the WTD exhibition will be available on the healthcare workforce portal shortly after the event, so even if you aren't coming to London you can still catch up with all the latest WTD information.
If you're attending, we look forward to seeing you there.

Memory sticks on their way
USB sticks packed with workforce planning resources are set to wing their way to 100 healthcare staff.
Last month we offered the first 50 people who got their friend to sign up to receive this bulletin a memory stick, with the added bonus that their friend would also get one as a welcome from NWP. The memory sticks will be distributed shortly.
We'd like to thank everyone who 'told a friend' about us, we hope you continue to enjoy our regular bulletins and visit the healthcare workforce online portal to browse and use of our range of resources and tools. |

The Calderdale Framework will join the host of online tools on NWP's healthcare workforce portal in July.
The new resource provides a clear and systematic method of reviewing skill mix and roles within a service, carried out in conjunction with the Skills for Health (SfH) competences.
The document has been produced within the Clinical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust.
The framework provides the basis for the training of staff and gives them a clear record of competence, ensuring they are fit for purpose in their role.
