In this issue of our monthly bulletin, we'll be looking ahead to some of the workforce planning events and resources in store for you during 2008.

18 week masterclasses

Two regional masterclasses take place in February 2008 as part of the national 18 weeks workforce support programme. Aimed at chief executives, directors and other senior leaders, expert speakers will share innovative ways of working introduced across the country in order to meet the 18 week target.

Resources for commissioners

We are currently in the process of finalising our first two resources aimed specifically at commissioners. February 2008 sees the launch of an e-learning programme for service commissioners and the publication of a hot topic briefing paper about education commissioning. Register your early interest in both resources to be first to hear when they are available.

HPMA Excellence in HRM Awards 2008

NWP is delighted to announce its sponsorship of a brand new category in the annual HPMA awards 2008. The award for HR impact on cultural change will reward initiatives and projects that have seen human resources influence culture change in an organisation.

HPMA Awards 2008If your team or organisation has developed interesting and innovative ways of dealing with change, why not enter the awards? Your project need not be large scale but it does need to have had a tangible impact on staff and patients. It could be your strategy for tackling the 18 weeks target or perhaps EWTD.

The deadline for entries is 26th February 2008.

NWP is working in partnership with Multiple Sclerosis Society, Epilepsy Action, Parkinson's Disease Society, Royal College of Nursing and the Department of Health to develop a best practice resource pack supporting commissioning of long term neurological conditions.

The pack is for commissioners and service leads and aims to assist the commissioning and planning of neurological services. We will be launching the pack at the Managing Long Term Conditions Conference in Harrogate on 1st May 2008.

18 week workshops, Newmarket and London
18 week workforce development masterclassesWith two of our original ten workshops still yet to happen, we do have some delegate places available for the East of England and London SHA regions. Both workshops take place in January 2008. So, if you are involved in planning the workforce to deliver the 18 week wait within either the East of England or London SHA areas, here is an opportunity to share experiences and ideas and to find out what’s happening elsewhere in your region.

18 week masterclasses, Manchester and London
With just over a year to achieve the 18 week wait target, we are holding two regional chief executive and director level masterclasses in February 2008 (one in the north and one in the south). These masterclasses will offer an update of how far the NHS has come - with news and innovations from across the country - and a look at what has yet to be achieved, which includes an overview of the tools and resources available to help organisations.
